Richard Grenell, the controversial right wing Republican who is known for his blatant insults former president Obama’s Iran-Nuclear deal as well as his controversial comments on immigration has been confirmed by the U.S. Senate on a vote of 56-42 to become President Donald Trump’s first and only nominee to pass the confirmation process and, to become our first openly gay Ambassador to Germany.

Rumors about the only openly gay republican first started circulating a year ago about where Richard Grenell would land in the Trump administration as it was rumored by Bloomberg, that he was considered for the position Ambassador to Nato.

Largely confirmed along party lines, Richard Grenell will now be filling a position that had been vacant since January 2017. Grenell is a well known Republican foreign policy writer and commentator who made it a point to promote Trump’s right wing agenda. He is also known for being an aide to the new national security adviser and certified war hawk, John Bolton who never met a war he didn’t like. Trump nominated Grenell for the Berlin post back in September 2017.

It wasn’t smooth sailing for Grenell during his confirmation hearing as he was asked about his controversial comments on women politicians and fellow LGBTQ citizens in regards to civil rights. Richard Grenell used the ‘narrative’ that he was only trying to be funny to attract attention and wasn’t in any way trying to be insulting.  One wonders how long he will last in his new position!

Grenell is also in a battle with cancer as he tweeted the following today!
