LAS VEGAS — (06-21-21) — Las Vegas Raiders defensive lineman Carl Nassib became the first active NFL player to come out as gay on Monday. In an Instagram video posted Friday, the five-year veteran defensive told his followers:

“I just wanna take a quick moment to say that I’m gay.” – Carl Nassib

Not only did Carl Nassib say that he finally felt “comfortable” enough to come out as gay but also announced he would be donating $100,000 to The Trevor Project, a suicide prevention nonprofit that offers assistance to LGBTQ youth.

While we have seen several former NFL players come out as Gay, none have ever done so while active on an NFL roster.

The only other player who was openly gay, Michael Sam, won SEC Defensive Player of the Year in 2013 and was drafted by the then-St Louis Rams in 2014, but he did not make the final roster for the team.
