NEW YORK CITY — Lyft has confirmed that they have fired the operator who asked RuPaul’s Drag Race Queen to get off the Lyft car for kissing her boyfriend’.

Aja, from RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 9, is scheduled to appear in the next season of All Stars.   Aja’s boyfriend, Jay Rivera, who goes by Lizard Lemon, were removed from the ride share service car right before 1 a.m on Tuesday December 12 in New York City.

“Me and Aja were told to get out a Lyft for being gay. Not kidding,’ posted Rivera on Twitter. “The driver asked us to leave after kissing. In New York City. Really really disappointing.’ concluded Rivera.

The celebrity couple were then forced to walk home to their apartment in Queens!

Now in all fairness, Lyft immediately got on this the minute they became aware of it on Twitter and made sure to follow up with Jay Rivera on twitter.  Not only that, shortly after the story went viral online, a Lyft spokesperson released the following statement to the media;

‘We have zero tolerance for any type of discrimination on our platform, and are committed to maintaining an inclusive and welcoming community. ‘What is being described here is against our terms of service and our values as a company. ‘As soon as this incident was brought to our attention, we reached out to the passengers to offer our support. ‘The driver has been deactivated from the Lyft platform.’

We have to give credit where credit is due because anyone who lives in New York City nows that Lyft has always been a strong supporter of the LGBTQ community. In fact, Lyft was honored in September by the Human Rights Campaign who awarded its Corporate Equality Award to Lyft.

‘Lyft has been a strong ally to the LGBTQ community, both with its inclusive internal policies for employees and its public positions supporting pro-equality legislation and policies across the country,’ said Deena Fidas, director of the Workplace Equality Program at HRC.
