SALISBURY, NC — (01-07-24) — Notorious anti-gay activist Kim Davis is snubbing the federal jury order to pay $260,000 in attorney’s fees to gay couple who she refused to issue a marriage license too in 2015.  When the federal jury awarded David Ermold and David Moore $100,000 in their verdict back in September 2023, Davis and her Liberty Counsel founder and Chairman Mat Staver said they would immediately appeal the verdict, and if necessary all the way to the U.S Supreme Court.

Last week, in the case Ermold v. Davis, the jury awarded $50,000 to each of the plaintiffs, David Ermold and David Moore. The court also ordered Davis to pay Ernold and Moore’s attorneys $260,104 in legal fees.

“The plaintiffs in this case are part of a larger agenda that are intent on punishing people of faith who hold the values that marriage is the union of a man and a woman,” said Liberty Counsel founder and chairman Mat Staver, in an interview he gave to Fox News.

Davis and her counsel’s next move is to target the landmark Supreme Court ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges, which legalized same-sex marriage by claiming that “A finding of liability would violate the First Amendment Free Exercise of Religion,” said Davis’ counsel, a religious liberty organization that litigates cases involving evangelical Christian values. She further said that by distributing marriage licenses to gay couples, it went against her beliefs as a member of the Apostolic Church. Claiming that she could not in good faith issue a marriage license to gay people “under God’s authority.”

We will continue to follow this case and bring you updates as they become available.
