AUSTIN, TX — (07-05-22) — Once again Texas attorney general Ken Paxton is grabbing headlines for wanting to make Gay Sex illegal again in the state of Texas. He made the announcement that he was “willing and able” to ban gay sex following the conservative packed Supreme Court’s ruling overturning Roe v. Wade.

During a June 24 interview with the NewsNation cable channel, AG Paxton was asked if he would be willing to defend a Texas law banning sodomy if a case challenging states’ ability to regulate same-sex intimacy were to come before the conservative packed US Supreme Court.

This question of course followed Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas statement that he wanted to revisit Gay Marriage and correct the wrong that the court made legalizing gay marriage in 2015.

The Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, a landmark 1973 ruling mandating a constitutional right to abortion access, immediately sparked concerns from LGBTQ advocacy groups that conservatives will now continue their anti-LGBTQ war all the way to the now-conservative packed Supreme Court.

In his comments during his interview on NewsNation, Paxton appeared eager to take on a lawsuit targeting LGBT rights in Texas. “There’s all kinds of issues here, but certainly, the Supreme Court has stepped into issues that I don’t think there was any constitutional issues dealing with,” said Paxton. “They were legislative issues.”

Texas is one of 11 U.S. states (mostly Conservative controlled states), that still have its sodomy ban on its books despite Lawrence v. Texas, the Supreme Court’s 2003 ruling to decriminalize gay sex in all 50 states.

With the court’s giving their dark age ideology legal cover to discriminate against LGBTQ Americans, Conservative Republicans are moving full force to destroy the little progress we have made over the past 15 years.

Paxton told NewsNation that he would have no issue recriminalizing consensual sex acts between LGBTQ adults in his state. “My job is to defend state law and I’ll continue to do that,” he said. “That is my job under the Constitution and I’m certainly willing and able to do that.”

Americans if we do not get out and vote, Conservative republicans are going to take us back to the 1800s. This isn’t hyperbole, this is what they are doing in every state that they control the legislatures.
