CALIFORNIA — Transgender journalist and LGBTQ equality activist Ashlee Marie Preston, whom you will remember came into the spotlight when she confronted Caitlyn Jenner during a Republican fundraiser last summer, has just announced her run for public office.

In fact after the now disgraced California assemblyman Sebastian Ridley-Thomas, who resigns over sexual harassment allegations, Ashlee Marie Preston announced that she is going to run for his seat representing the District 54 seat in the California State Assembly.

Should the former Wear Your Voice Magazine editor and activist win next spring’s special election, Prestone would represent the voters of South Los Angeles including Windsor Hills and Baldwin Hills. Preston would have a strong base as the neighborhoods in which she would win voted overwhelmingly for Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election.

Preston states that her agenda will address issues such as police brutality, trans discrimination, immigration issues and especially the rape culture.

In a press release issued to media outlets, Ashlee Marie Preston said…”As someone directly impacted by the issues that often diminish the quality of life, I have an acute understanding of which policies must be put into play in order to move progress forward for the constituents of the 54th district and beyond. I believe in prioritizing people over politics. We are more than poll percentage points; we are real people with real stories. I fully intend to continue honoring those experiences, and advocating for those who don’t have a seat at the table.” said Preston.

Preston is no stranger to politics as she has served on the boards of the Transgender Service Provider Network, Los Angeles Pride, Stonewall Democratic Club, Gender Odyssey Los Angeles, Los Angeles Pride, Trans Can Work, Mirror Memoirs and the Human Rights Campaign.

In fact Preston was named one of The “Root’s 100 Most Influential African-Americans” of 2017.
