TEL AVIV — (08-26-22) — We can now confirm that Prime Minister Yair Lapid will take part in the 20th-anniversary celebrations for the Israel Gay Youth organization (IGY) on Saturday August 27, 2022.  Lapid will also be making history as he will be the first prime minister to participate in an LGBT event in Israel. In fact LGBT Advocacy groups see the gesture as nothing less than historic.

“This is how history is made, in action,” said the IGY’s CEO Ofer Neuman on Ynet in an interview on Friday. Neuman further added that “Prime Minister Lapid’s arrival at an event that symbolizes equality, inclusion, pride, and security for everyone, is a step that will reverberate into the homes of every family in Israel, into every dark closet in which a boy or girl hides today, and into the hearts of many in the gay community in Israel and around the world.” concluded Neuman.

The organization has 400 volunteers and over 4,000 youth participants in ongoing activities throughout the year.  IGY works for the empowerment of LGBTQ+ youth and young people by creating a meaningful social space for them and to encourage them to take part in shaping the LGBTQ+ community in particular and Israeli society in general. The organization works for education and social change for LGBTQ+ and hetero-cis youth alike and works to eradicate violence, racism and homophobia to create a just, egalitarian and democratic society.

According to the prime minister’s office, he will attend the festivities with his wife Lihi, and will give a speech and 9:05 p.m.
