Georgia lawmaker State Rep. Gerald Greene, is recovering after being released from Midtown Medical Center after a gunshot wound he says he received while traveling with several thousand dollars in donations for storm relief victims.

The 69 year-old Greene says that he had stopped for gas in Columbus when he was shot in the leg last Thursday, a spokesman for Georgia House Speaker David Ralston told statehouse reporters.

But the strange thing is, Greene told CBS affiliate WRBL-TV of Columbus that he was in a parking lot behind a popular adult video store, Foxes Cinema located at 3009 Victory Drive  in Columbus, when he was shot.  According to WRBL-TV, they sent a news crew to the location and found fresh blood on the concrete behind the business, the station reported.

In an interview with CBS affiliate WRBL-TV,  State Rep. Gerald Greene claims that a man pointed a gun at his chest, demanded money and then shot him in the leg.   The robber did not get the donations to the American Red Cross he had with him, said Greene.

When police responded to the scene of the crime, they claimed to list the crime scene address as 30th Avenue Liquor Store at 3001 Victory Drive and not the adult video store.  This was cleared up with the surveillance video.

Witnesses also say that Greene got into his car and drove over to the 30th Avenue Package Store and those claims are backed up by surveillance video that News 3 obtained from the package store, which is time stamped at 4:25 p.m.

Greene, from Cuthbert, has served in the State House for 33 years, representing House District 151. The district covers parts of Calhoun, Clay, Early, Quitman, Randolph, Stewart, Terrell, Webster and part of Dougherty County.
