Congratulations are in order for MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show as it continues to dominate prime time in cable news politics. She continues to beat conservative FOX News host Sean Hannity who recently moved to the 6:00 p.m EST slot to go up against Maddow.

Maddow, a proud lesbian has continued to lead MSNBC in prime time increasing their audience by as much as 30 percent during the first quarter of 2018.

According to Adweek, the Rachel Maddow Show scored 3.058 million viewers for March which was its best performance ever recorded. Not only does Maddow captured the hearts and minds of 45 – 65 but she also dominates younger viewers in the 24 to 54 market reaching 664,000 in the DEMO while her competitor and 2nd place holder Sean Hannity, came in with 616,000 in the DEMO for March 2018.

Though FOX News remains number one in total viewers, they still can’t break their own ceiling in viewership. For the past 20 years, fox has maintained an average audience of 2.5 million viewers in prime time and 1.2 million viewers in the Daypart slots.

Adweek reports…”MSNBC just completed a record-setting quarter in total viewers in every key daypart and for every hour between 9 a.m. and 11 p.m. on weekdays. The network averaged nearly 1.9 million total prime time viewers in Q1 2018, +30 percent from Q1 2017, and was the second-most-watched cable network in prime time. The network also posted +20 percent growth in the prime time demo from last year, +20 percent total day viewer growth, and +21 percent growth in the total day demo versus Q1 2017.”

Congratulations to Rachel Maddow and hopefully we will see more of LGBTQ journalists in the near future headlining more news programming on cable news during prime time hours and not restricted to only covering the news on the weekends which in the news business is considered the graveyard shifts.
