Openly gay Rep. ‘Jared Polis’, (D-CO), won his gubernatorial primary on Tuesday night and now faces off against Republican Walker Stapleton for governor of Colorado in November. If Jared Paris wins he would become the first gay man elected governor in the history of the United States.

On his victory on primary night, Jared Polis with a gleaming smile said…“I think it really gives Colorado an opportunity to stick a thumb in the eye of Mike Pence, whose view of America is not as inclusive as where America is today.” said Polis.

Now if you remember recent history, former Gov. Jim McGreevey (D-NJ) made history back in 2004 when he came out as gay while in office but this time around, if Polis wins, he would be the first recorded gay man to ever be elected governor.

If Polis wins he will join Gov. Kate Brown (D-OR) who is the nation’s first openly bisexual governor as well as being the premier openly LGBT governor when taking the reigns as governor. While conservative groups poured millions of dollars to defeat Brown in the special election in 2016, following her time in office after succeeding former Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber when he resigned in 2015, she won with 50.1 percent of the vote against her challenger, Rep. Bud Pierce.

Jared Polis is married with two children and has served the great citizens of the 2nd District in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2009.
