Halsey Slams Victoria's Secret Fashion Show After Performing In It

NEW YORK, NY — (12-03-18) — Pop artist Halsey performed ‘Without Me’ at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show Holiday Special on Sunday and then took to Instagram to slam the show by saying she has no tolerance for their lack of diversity.

We are proud to see Halsey who came out as a Lesbian last year, continue to generate huge success without the blacklisting practice the music industry usually practices but we are wondering what kind of backlash may she garner after her very public statement.

“In an emotional statement, Halsey shared on Instagram Sunday, the pop star, 24, said that her involvement in the fashion show actually ended up disappointing her because of controversial comments made by Ed Razek, the brand’s chief marketing officer, which Vogue published the day the event was filmed on Nov. 8.

People Magazine reported that Razek came out against hiring trans or curvy models for the annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show and later apologized after a backlash.

“I have adored the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show since I was young,” Halsey began her note. “Performing this year alongside other amazing artists, and hardworking models/friends was supposed to be the best night of my year.

Halsey, who has been open about identifying as bisexual, continued: “However, after I filmed the performance, some comments were made regarding the show that I simply cannot ignore. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I have no tolerance for a lack of inclusivity. Especially not one motivated by stereotype.”

The ‘Without Me’ song was released as a single on October 4, 2018, by Capitol Records. The pop song is the lead single off her upcoming third studio album.

During a performance in London on September 23, 2018, Halsey premiered visuals for the ‘Without Me’ song before announcing it would be released on October 4. Many people have speculated the song and music video are about ex-boyfriend, G-Eazy, as they have recently split not long before the ‘Without Me’ music video was released.

Halsey disputed those rumors after posting the reasoning behind the ‘Without Me’ song on Instagram.

“Without Me” is a mid-tempo R&B and pop break-up song, which comprises an atmospheric blend of synths in its production. The song’s bridge contains an interpolation of the pre-chorus of Justin Timberlake’s “Cry Me a River”. The ‘Without Me’ music video was directed by Colin Tilley.

“Without Me” debuted at number 18 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart issue dated 20 October 2018. With the debut of the music video, “Without Me” jumped to number nine, giving Halsey her first top 10 single since “Bad at Love” had reached number five in January 2018.

On the issue dated 24 November 2018, “Without Me” reached number four, becoming Halsey’s highest-charting single as a lead artist, surpassing the aforementioned “Bad at Love”. It also reached number one on the Digital Songs chart. In the UK the song also peaked at number four, making it her third top five hit.
