WASHINGTON, D.C — (10-08-18) — CNN White House correspondent Kaitlan Collins is in the hot seat as old anti-gay slurs come out from the archives. The young White House CNN correspondent apologized on Sunday over the comments she made during her college years.
Conservative LGBTQ group Log Cabin Republicans, were quick to expose the comments from 2011 on Twitter where Kaitlan Collins used the word “fag”. Not only that but she also questioned whether she wanted to share a dorm room at the University of Alabama with a lesbian.
“It was immature but it doesn’t represent the way I feel at all,” wrote Kaitlan Collins on Twitter Sunday.
Log Cabin Republicans posted screengrabs of Collins old tweets sparking backlash, forgiveness and debate over her college year comments. On the heals of now Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh being put through the ringer over his High School and College years, conservatives were quick to jump on the CNN white house correspondent for her past comments.
When I was in college, I used ignorant language in a few tweets to my friends. It was immature but it doesn’t represent the way I feel at all. I regret it and apologize.

As expected, the responses on twitter have been mixed:

Can we just not do the whole digging up old tweets thing? Idc who it’s targeting it just needs to stop in general

I don’t understand why people have to judge based on sexuality.. this is something that is so foreign to my thinking.. only time ive ever called someone a fag was out of love over a highly intense ps4 session lol.

Openly gay CNN vice president of communications Matt Dornic, posted on Twitter that he was “disappointed” that Kaitlan Collins used an offensive word, but did accept her apology.
I’m a proud gay man. And I am a proud friend of @kaitlancollins. Tho I’m disappointed that she ever used the word (even as an immature college kid), I can say with certainty it doesn’t reflect her feelings toward the LGBTQ community. She’s apologized and I accept that.
