UNITED KINGDOM — The 21st Century has brought new thoughts of acceptance in the Church but not as much as some would hope.

However this time around, LGBT Rights Activists in England are elated over the latest vote that took place in the Church of England as members of England’s ruling body voted not to “take note” of what they consider to be a controversial report on same-sex marriage and homosexuality.

The report which was produced by the House of Bishops called for a “culture of welcome and support” towards gay Christians throughout the United Kingdom.

However it still had not changed its doctrine that marriage that is to take place in church must only be between a man and a woman as well as services for same-sex relations not be blessed.

After hours of debate and two rounds of voting, the motion was defeated by the House of Clergy.

The House of Bishops voted overwhelmingly (43-1) in favor of the House of Bishop’s report and the House of Laity also voted in favor by a vote of 106 to 83.

However what many don’t know about how the rules work, in order for the report to pass it must be approved by all three houses and the Clergy failed to make that happen by voting against the resolution by a a vote of 100 to 93 with two abstentions.

Bishops will now have to produce a new report on the issue of same-sex marriage and homosexuality. LGBT rights activists who staged protests ahead of the debate at the Church of England was shocked and welcomed the failure of passage of the report.

LGBT Rights activist and Synod member from York Lucy Gorman, said…”Thank you Synod. With that vote we’ve sent a message to the outside world.” said Gorman.
