After huge success at the Sundance Film Festival, upstart distributor Neon has inked a North American rights agreement for Beach Rats (2017) for a reported $3 Million Dollars.

The deal was sealed on January 28. Beach Rats (2017) Gay drama film was written and directed by Eliza Hittman. Award winning director Hittman had serious competition at the Sundance Film Festival and yet still came out on top not only with the award for Best Directing for “Beach Rats” but also for scoring a major distribution deal.

Plot:
“An aimless teenager on the outer edges of Brooklyn struggles to escape his bleak home life and navigate questions of self-identity, as he balances his time between his delinquent friends, a potential new girlfriend, and older men he meets online.”

Movie Reviewer of the Daily Beast, Kevin Fallon, wrote in his column that Hittman addresses “cruising” in the real world, which, according to the film’s director, is alive and well!

“Eliza Hittman’s film was inspired by a photograph, one that is inherently of today’s day and age of digital culture: a dimly-lit selfie taken by a teenage boy meant to arouse its eventual recipient. Out of that photo, British breakout Harris Dickinson was cast, and the model-turned-actor delivers one of the most grueling, sensual, and captivating star turns at Sundance. Hittman says the film, “a story about the tension of masculinity and heteronormativity set in the present,” should resonate differently in a post-election world.”
