HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. — The iconic AdamMale online superstore, the gay male division of retail giant AdamAndEve, is celebrating its 20-year anniversary in December.

Launched as a website in November 1997, AdamMale took off in December of that year when its first marketing offer went out via United States Post.

“We didn’t start with a full catalog at first. We mailed eight-page flyers and the response was overwhelming,” said Bobby Stone, spokesperson for AdamMale. “At first, we were only mailing names from the Adam & Eve file (our sister company), but we quickly realized there was a huge demand for gay material.” said Stone.

At the time, gay male products were quite controversial and not readily available for consumers. In fact AdamMale grew rapidly and achieved over $1 million in sales by the end of its first year in operation.
