Sara Ramirez, the openly bisexual actress on the hit CBS Television show ‘Madame Secretary‘ has teamed up with GLAAD for better Spanish-Language LGBTQ representation in prime-time scripted Television shows on Spanish Language networks.
The reason for this campaign is obvious as only three percent of characters in Spanish-language prime-time scripted shows are LGBTQ and a majority of those characters are portraying unflattering stereotypes.
Shockingly low LGBTQ representation in Spanish-language media,
According to new GLAAD report
GLAAD found this out in their most recent survey and with those startling numbers, the media watchdog group has teamed up with Sara Ramirez as well as the National Association of Hispanic Journalists to encourage change. The message of course is directed at screenplay writers, producers, directors and casting agents.
As part of GLAAD’s #InclusiveScreens/#PantallaInclusiva campaign, a fresh new Essay Contest will ask respondents…“What do you want to see in terms of inclusion on Spanish-language television?” Act now and be a part of the Essay Contest
Responses can be in English or Spanish and can include video or photography. GLAAD states that The contest ends March 2 and winners have a chance to win a chance to attend the GLAAD Media Awards which will be held in Los Angeles and New York. Click here for all the details.
