MINNEAPOLIS, MN — (05-24-23) — Target reported on Wednesday that anti-LGBT extremists came into stores and knocked down PRIDE Merchandise displays and threatened store employees at several locations.
Target came under intense scrutiny this week after the retail giant announced that it was pulling some LGBTQ-themed merchandise displays following what a corporate spokesperson described as “threats impacting our team members’ sense of safety and wellbeing while at work.”
In fact several anti-LGBT Target customers posted videos on TikTok showing Pride merchandise displays being moved to less visible location.
In a statement Tuesday night, a spokesperson for Target Released the Following Statement:
“The company has “offered an assortment of products aimed at celebrating Pride Month” for more than a decade. But “since introducing this year’s collection, we’ve experienced threats impacting our team members’ sense of safety and wellbeing while at work.
“Given these volatile circumstances, we are making adjustments to our plans, including removing items that have been at the center of the most significant confrontational behavior. Our focus now is on moving forward with our continuing commitment to the LGBTQIA+ community and standing with them as we celebrate Pride Month and throughout the year.”
The company did not respond to JRL CHARTS LGBT Politics to a question about how the corporate decision might be perceived by the LGBTQ community.
Now while the majority of these anti-LGBT stunts by conservatives are taking place in the South, not all Target stores were affected by this staged outrage by conservatives.
In fact Brian Sing, a senior merchandise planner at a Target location in Brooklyn, New York told NBC News New York that his store’s large PRIDE display went up about two weeks ago and employees have not received any threats or direction to move it or to take it down.
Target’s large selection of PRIDE merchandise displays nationwide comes amid an unprecedented time for LGBTQ rights in America. Conservatives have made it their mission to target the LGBTQ community as an historic 480 anti-LGBTQ bills have been filed in state legislatures across the country this year, according to the American Civil Liberties Union.
