POWAY, CA — (09-27-22) — Retired educators are outraged over conservative parents attempting to have removed certain LGBT themed books from their libraries in the Poway Unified School District. The district confirmed to JRL CHARTS LGBT Politics News that two LGBTQ books, “Fun Home” and “Gender Queer” are now under review. Conservative parents aiming for media attention have told local right wing media outlets that they have a list of 100 books that should be removed due to their “vulgarity”.

A spokesperson for Poway Unified School District wrote in an e-mail statement:

“As it pertains to those specific titles, (Fun Home and Gender Queer), they are going under review by the District review committee due to parent complaints around pervasive vulgarity and lack of educational suitability. Staff has checked out copies of the books so they can read the books in advance of the District review process.”

The Poway Unified School District is not alone as efforts to remove books with LGBT themes from school libraries are happening across the country in conservative counties.

Pen America, a non-profit that fights to keep books on the shelves, says from July of 2021 through march of 2022, there were nearly 1,600 actions taken in school districts to ban more than 1,100 titles.

If this reminds you of the Salem Witch Hunts Era, It Is as far as Conservatives are concerned, as they feel that LGBTQ children don’t exist! And Just think, this isn’t the 1500s, this is 2022 of the 21st Century! – Paul Goldberg, JRL CHARTS

The retired educators plan to be at the next scheduled Poway unified school district board meeting on October 12, 2022.
