BUCHAREST — (07-09-22) — Bucharest saw over 10,000 attendees taking part in the LGBTQ Pride Parade on Saturday. Thousands of Romanians participated in the march in Bucharest ahead of the planned legislation that could potentially endanger future LGBTQ parades and fuel discrimination against the LGBTQ Community.

Parliament’s lower house is expected to start discussing a bill that has already been approved by the Senate, that would ban “Gay Propaganda in Schools“, mirroring measures seen in Hungary, Russia and Red states in the USA under Republican control.

LGBTQ rights groups warn that the bill discriminates against the minority and could lead to the censorship of movies and news pertaining to the LGBT community, as well as restrictions on marches and public events in the future.

While social conservative Romanians decriminalized homosexuality in 2001, decades later than other members of the European Union, still ban same-sex marriage and civil partnerships for same sex couples.
