LAKE HAVASU, AZ — (04-12-22) — A Lake Havasu City man has pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated assault in the armed robbery of a Desert Hills adult bookstore on September 28, 2021.
The incident took place on Sept. 28, 2021, when the suspect, identified as 39-year-old Matthew B. McWhirter, entered the adult bookstore, pointed a shotgun at an employee, and demanded money from the cash register.
McWhirter later fled the scene, and the employee at the business called police. Deputies searched the area for McWhirter, with no results. The business is an adult bookstore and the suspect allegedly took about $300 from the business. McWhirter was identified as a suspect during a subsequent investigation, and he was arrested on Jan. 25 for the crime.

According to Deputy Mohave County Attorney Jake Chavez, 39-year-old Matthew B. McWhirter signed a plea agreement last Friday. In exchange for his guilty plea to charges of aggravated assault, Matthew McWhirter’s original charges of armed robbery will be dismissed.
McWhirter could be sentenced to a maximum of five years’ probation, or prison, at the court’s discretion.
