COLUMBUS, OH — (01-19-22) — Internationally known gay rights activist and named plaintiff in the Supreme Court case that legalized same-sex marriage nationwide, Jim Obergefell, announced on Tuesday he’s launching a bid for the Ohio State House.

“I took a history making fight for equal rights all the way to the US Supreme Court and won. I don’t mind being the underdog, and I’m not afraid to take on any issue when it’s the right thing to do. I will bring that same fighting spirit as your state representative,” said Obergefell in a video posted to Twitter on Tuesday.

Running as a Democrat, Obergefell is running to represent Ohio’s 89th House District which includes Erie and Ottawa counties. He will be going up against Republican D.J Swearingen who is currently holding that 89th House District seat.
