PHILADELPHIA, PA — (12-12-21) — Philadelphia’s newly formed PHL Pride Collective (PPC) announce its inaugural Gay PRIDE Event for June 3-5, 2022,. The Gay Pride Festivities will have a march instead of the traditional Gay Pride Parade.
According to PHL Pride Collective (PPC), a two-day retreat that took place back in October and hosted by the QTBIPOC Radical Social Justice organization GALAEI, PPC members voted to hold a march in June to pay homage to the Stonewall Riots and the legacy of Pride.

“Be a part of building a new Philly Pride, that centers Black and Brown queer and trans communities, and highlights the stories of LGBTQ+ Philadelphians still fighting for equality. We want to create a Pride that honors the origins of LGBTQ+ liberation, including the protests at Dewey’s in Philadelphia, Stonewall, and the first Philadelphia Gay Pride demonstration in 1972.”
GALAEI has partnered with PHL Pride Collective (PPC) for its first Pride Event. GALAEI will provide a physical location and administrative support for the collective’s planning initiatives.
“A decision was made to have a march in June to be in alignment with the historical roots of pride events, which was not only to celebrate our existence as LGBTQ+ people, but also to bring attention to the lack of civil rights and other oppressive forces impacting our communities,” said PPC General Body and Finance Committee Member Lee F. Carson. “The first Pride celebration in Philadelphia was 1972, so the celebration next year will be of historical significance as the 50th anniversary of Philadelphia’s LGBTQ+ Pride.” said Carson.
PPC also announced that they are planning to hold a Pride Parade in October next year to mark National Coming Out Day, a celebratory time of year for the LGBTQ community.
