LAS VEGAS — (11-01-21) — Hollywood actor and former President Obama adviser Kal Pen, comes out as a proud Gay American. The actor known for his roles in Designated Survivor (2016-2019), How I met your Mother (2011-2014) and House (2007-2012), opened up about his sexuality for the first time during his promo tour for his new tell-all memoir release, “You Can’t Be Serious.”.
In an interview with People Magazine, published last Sunday, kal Penn said that he is engaged to Josh, his boyfriend of 11 years. He also told the People that he felt “very supported” when he came out to his family members.
“I shared things with my parents and close friends first,” Penn told People. “I know this sounds jokey, but it’s true: When you’ve already told your Indian parents and the South Asian community that you intend to be an actor for a living, really any conversations that come after that are super easy. They’re just like, ‘Yeah, okay.’ … That’s a wonderful thing. I know everybody has different experiences with that and so I definitely feel very fortunate.”
Penn said that he wants a big Indian wedding but his fiance Josh prefers a “quick 20-minute thing with our families and that’s it.” The actor said the couple finally agreed to “meet halfway in the middle.”
