FRANKLIN, MA — (10-31-21) — Openly gay Massachusetts student Mackenzie Atwood was sharing her experiences with bullying at Franklin High School during a school board meeting last Tuesday, when she was left in tears following a woman shouting her down in the audience screaming…’This is indoctrination.”

Atwood was explaining her experience at the school board meeting on how she had been bullied simply because she is a Lesbian. School committee chair Anne Bergen banged a gavel and called for the audience to let MacKenzie Atwood speak.

“It is extremely disgusting that you can look me in the eyes and say that I’m not being oppressed at this school,” said Atwood as she broke down in tears.

A woman in the background then shouted, “This has to stop. This is the indoctrination.” Atwood tearfully yelled in response that there is “no such thing as the gay agenda” as Chairman Bergen continued banging her gavel for order to be restored.

Bergen called a pause to the meeting moments after the altercation, later telling people in the audience to let the teenagers speak.

“I do not ever, ever want to ask anyone to leave, but this meeting will be conducted respectfully,” said Bergen. “There will be no shouting out from the crowd. That is not how we ever, ever conduct meetings in this building.” said Bergen.
