LOS ANGELES, CA — (07-03-21) — Fights nearly broke out on Saturday between protestors and counter-protestors in Los Angeles over an incident at a spa involving a transgender woman.

Last week, a woman complained to staff at the Wi Spa located at 2700 Wilshire Blvd in Koreatown, after a transgender woman disrobed in a designated women’s area of the spa.

“It’s okay for a man to go into the women’s section, show his penis around other women, young little girls under age, your spa, Wi Spa, condoned that?” a female customer said to the staff in a video that went viral on Twitter. “He is not a female.” said the patron.

A staff member responded immediately by saying that the facility could not discriminate against the woman based on her gender identity. That response sparked more outrage among other customers. One female customer was shown in the video demanding her money back and vowing to never come back.

The video sparked demonstrators to bombard the Wi Spa on both sides of the issue, and that’s when exchanges broke out between the two groups, with several members escalating to punching one another.

Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Nicholas Prange told media outlets that one person was transported to a medical facility after sustaining non-life-threatening injuries.

Things got so out of hand that police in riot gear were sent in to break up the altercation.

Wi Spa defended its stance on the issue in a statement to Los Angeles Magazine, saying, “Like many other metropolitan areas, Los Angeles contains a transgender population, some of whom enjoy visiting a spa.  Wi Spa strives to meet the needs of all its customers.”
