Kevin R. Reed was booked into the Will County Jail around 1 a.m. Sunday, following a Crest Hill Police Department’s request to take him into custody on a bench warrant issued from Will County Judge Ken Zelazo.

According to the criminal complaint, Reed is accused of stealing merchandise on September 13, from the Taboo Adult store located at 1916 Plainfield Road.

The merchandise being a sex toy valued at $200, “with the intention of depriving the merchant permanently of the use and benefit of such merchandise,” the court records show.

Crest Hill Police Chief Ed Clark said that Kevin R. Reed entered the Taboo adult store without wearing a face mask and the employee refused to allow him entry.

Reed then returned a few minutes later wearing a mask. Accoring to Chief Clark, Reed was also required to provide his ID to enter the store, which is required for all guests of Taboo.

According to Clark, Reed stole an item of merchandise from the store that was valued at $200. Crest Hill’s chief said he did not want to disclose more details about the item that was taken.

“He took the item and walked out of the store,” said Chief Clark on Monday.

Thanks to the store’s surveillance video as well as the fact that Reed provided his ID to the store, detectives were able to obtain a bench warrant for the Joliet man’s arrest.

Reed has previously been convicted of shoplifting in Will County, states his latest criminal complaint. The suspect’s bail has been set at $20,000. As of Monday afternoon, Reed remained in the county jail.
