BRUSSELS, BELGIUM — (10-08-20) — LGBTQ+ Politicians are having a record breaking year in 2020 as Dr. Petra De Sutter becomes Europe’s first Trans Deputy Prime Minister.
Petra De Sutter also becomes the highest ranking transgender official in the European Union and the first trans person to hold such a powerful position.
Progressive Prime Minister Alexander De Croo appointed De Sutter as deputy prime minister for Groen (the Flemish green party) and minister for public enterprises and public administration.

Dr. Petra De Sutter is a gynecologist and has served as the head of the department of reproductive medicine at Ghent University.
Not only is she known to be a formable politician from her time serving in the European Parliament, the Belgian Senate, and the parliamentary assembly of the Council of Europe, Dr. Sutter is also known for her strong activistim in support for women’s equality, reproductive freedom and LGBTQ+ civil rights.
