NEW YORK, NY — (07-11-19) — NYPD hate crimes task force has said they are launching an investigation after posters of soccer champion Megan Rapinoe posters were vandalized with misogynistic comments and homophobic slurs at a Manhattan subway station.

The Megan Rapinoe posters were on display around the Bryant Park subway station.stop, when on Monday it was reported to authorities that the posters had been vandalized.

Megan Rapinoe, who is a Lesbian and strong advocate for LGBTQ rights has not only made a name for herself as a world class athlete but also for her feud with anti-LGBT president Donald Trump over his anti-LGBT policies that he continues to push.

Vandalized Megan Rapinoe Posters being Investigated as a Hate Crime

“Hate has no place in the transit system and we work hard to make the subway a welcoming, safe environment for everyone,” a spokesman for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority told the New York Post of the vandalism. “We referred this to NYPD which responded to investigate. Our maintenance teams got the posters cleaned and we will have them replaced with new ones if necessary.”

The vandalism is believed to have taken place on Monday morning, just two days before Megan Rapinoe and her team mates of the U.S. women’s national soccer team won the World Cup.

Co-captain Megan Rapinoe, was awarded the tournament’s Golden Boot and Golden Ball trophies Sunday for being the Women’s World Cup’s top scorer and best player.

The celebration and parade for the U.S. Women’s World Cup Champions on the streets of Manhattan with tens of thousands in attendance.
