NASHVILLE, TN — (02-13-19) — Republican lawmakers in Tennessee have proposed the Natural Marriage Act (HB0892) surely which is nothing more than a same-sex marriage ban.

This is yet another game where republicans pull out the social issue card with the same bill they have been throwing around for more than two years in order to try and justify why Tennessee won’t honor the Supreme Court’s decision in Obergefell v. Hodges.

Another lame attempt to not valid same-sex marriage in Tennessee. If republicans are able to pass the Natural Marriage Act (HB0892),  same-sex marriage ban bill, it would prohibit city clerks and other state government officials and employees who daily give out marriage licenses to LGBTQ couples, from recognizing same-sex unions. It would also provider protection from incarceration for any city official and/or employee for not recognizing same-sex marriage.

State house Republican representative Jerry Sexton of District 35, had the nerve to insult the citizens of Tennessee and another states dealing with the same issue by claiming that the Supreme Court ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges, created confusion about how marriage laws should work.

Sexton further said that the purpose of the Natural Marriage Act is to pass laws that would go through the courts and allow them to be challenged.

But wait, didn’t that already happen? Isn’t that why the U.S Supreme court ruled that same-sex marriage was the law of the land? Putting the bed to this nonsense?

When asked if the so called Natural Marriage Act would attempt to make same-sex marriage illegal, Jerry Sexton said…”Senator Pody and I are still working on the bill…It’s just too early for me to get into the details and say what the exact intent of it is.” said Sexton.

However have faith LGBTQ citizens in the great state of Tennessee because remember, the Natural Marriage Act has failed to pass twice and judging by what these right wing anti-LGBTQ try to take away your right to marry, chances are that it will never happen. In other words, “its settled law”.
