WASHINGTON D.C — (01-10-19) — Evangelical activists are lobbying Republican lawmakers in Washington to strip protections for Gays from the anti-Lynching Bill, known as the Justice for Victims of Lynching Act.

The bill cleared the United States Senate on December 20, by a unanimous vote which is rare in today’s political climate.

The Justice for Victims of Lynching Act of 2018 was introduced in the early 2018 by three African-American senators; South Carolina Republican Sen. Tim Scott, California Democratic Sen. Kamala Harris and New Jersey Democratic Sen. Cory Booker. It goes to show just how long it takes for legislation to progress.

The new bill outlines the specific act of Lynching such as a mob killing without legal authority as well as adding lynching to the federal list of hate crimes which currently protect the LGBT community.
