Venom is an upcoming American superhero film taken right out of the Marvel Comics world of characters. The action packed movie was produced by Columbia Pictures and distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing. According to Columbia, Venom is intended to be the first film in Sony’s Marvel Universe, adjunct to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Directed by Ruben Fleischer from a screenplay by Scott Rosenberg, Jeff Pinkner, Kelly Marcel and Will Beall, Venom stars Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock (Venom), alongside Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Scott Haze, and Reid Scott.

Development of the  project, a spin-off from the Spider-Man film franchise, took off with producer Avi Arad in 2007. After various iterations, work on a new version began in March 2017 to start a new shared universe featuring the Marvel characters to which Sony possessed the film rights.

Synopsis:
“One of Marvel’s most enigmatic, complex and badass characters comes to the big screen, starring Academy Award® nominated actor Tom Hardy as the lethal protector ;Venom;.”

Sony Pictures Releasing plans for Venom is to launch its own franchise. In fact back in July 2017, the distributor indicated that future Venom films could crossover more with the Spider-Man films franchise.
