WASHINGTON, D.C — Joint Chiefs chairman Marine Gen. Joe Dunford, who was blindsided by President Trump’s tweet yesterday where he stated that he is “Banning all Transgender people from serving in all aspects of the U.S. Military”, said on Thursday that there will be no modifications to existing policy within the armed forces in regards to transgender troops without direction from the Secretary of Defense.

In fact, The Chairman wrote his statement in a message to the chiefs of all branches of the military that they will continue to “treat all of our personnel with respect.”

MEMO to Joint Chiefs:
“I know there are questions about yesterday’s announcement on the transgender policy by the President. There will be no modifications to the current policy until the President’s direction has been received by the Secretary of Defense and the Secretary has issued implementation guidance. In the meantime, we will continue to treat all of our personnel with respect. As importantly, given the current fight and the challenges we face, we will all remain focused on accomplishing our assigned missions” said Chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff Marine Gen. Joe Dunford who as served under both Obama and Trump administrations.
