RALEIGH, N.C. – A new GOP bill HB780, filed by two Charlotte-area representatives is aiming to ban gay marriage in North Carolina once again

The new proposed bill entitled, “Uphold Historical Marriage Act” , states that the U.S. Supreme Court over stepped its “constitutional bounds” when it ruled in 2015 that gay marriage was the law of the land. That ruling struck down what was known as Amendment One in North Carolina.

North Carolina is no stranger to anti-gay rights when in May 2012, more than 60 percent of the state’s voters voted in favor of anti-gay marriage bill, Amendment One, which prohibited the state of North Carolina from recognizing or performing same-sex marriages or civil unions.
