The Assignment (2017) is the action-adventure film directed by Walter Hill. The film that also made heads turn in the Transgender community late late last year when it was announced that Fast & Furious franchise star Michelle Rodriguez, would take the roll of a transgender hit man themed film.

The film stars Michelle Rodriguez, Sigourney Weaver, Tony Shalhoub, Anthony LaPaglia, Terry Chen, Paul McGillion and Caitlin Gerard.  The Assignment (2017) drew huge backlash from the LGBTQ community calling it nothing more than a homophobic hit piece!

Now, SBS Productions and Saban Films have released the official trailer for ‘The Assignment’ (2017) and according to sites such as PerezHilton.com, “It’s Just As Offensive As We Thought!”.

Now for me, I believe in giving every project a chance. Yes I know that may not be PC, however we have to remember that in order for us to be equal in a society, we have to be prepared to be portrayed in both positive, crazy and negative scenarios.

In 2016, the transgender community was largely disappointed by the image of forced gender reassignment surgery and a boycott was created in response to the film.

Todd McCarthy gave the film a positive review in The Hollywood Reporter, calling it “Hill’s most entertaining and … accomplished film in some time,” and “an instant cult item.”

“I wouldn’t make a movie that hurt transgender people,” said director Walter Hill. “Some of them have had a tough time of it, and the last thing I want to do is make anyone’s road harder. But look, I understand the concern. Is it lurid? Yes. Is it lowbrow? Well, maybe. Is it offensive? No. I’m just trying to honor the B movies that we grew up with.”

Michelle Rodriguez is hardly someone who is Anti-LGBTQ so let us take that into account first off and plus, the production quality and action are something else to look at as well. Bottom line – Judge the film for yourself before you pass judgement and remember that it is an action adventure film only and not a political film.

PLOT:

“Dr. Rachel Kay (Sigourney Weaver) is a brilliant but unhinged cosmetic surgeon. A lowlife killer named Frank Kitchen killed her brother, so she took her ultimate revenge. She captured him and puts him through a gender-reassignment surgery to turn him into a woman. Now Frank (Michelle Rodriguez) is forced to face the world as a woman. Confused, pissed off, and as macho as ever, she’s out for her own vengeance.”
