STREETSBORO, OH — Police have sent word over to our newsroom asking for help in the cold case of a man found murdered in an adult bookstore 35 years ago.

The Streetsboro police department’s cold case division states that “On Nov. 20, 1981, James L. Allen was found dead inside Portage News, located at the intersection of state Route 14 and state Route 43.”

James L. Allen had been an employee at the adult store and when police officers responded the the call the found Allen’s body where it had evidence of being beaten and stabbed to death.

While money from the cash register, coins from the video preview machines had been stolen, it is still unkown to investigators if the robbery was the sole motive for the murder.  Due to the extreme manner in which Allen was brutally killed.

“Although this case is 35 years old, we would like nothing more than to bring the person responsible to justice,” Streetsboro police said on Facebook.

Allen’s car was also stolen at the scene of the crime but was later recovered by police approximately one mile away.  Investigators say the case remains unsolved and if anyone with information on this case are asked to contact the Streetsboro police department at| 330-626-4976 | Crimetips@streetsboropolice.com.
